IntroductionStep 2 is a three bed transitional living unit which is committed to assisting persons between the ages of 16 and 64 with the dual diagnosis of Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) or Neurodegenerative disease and Psychiatric disorders. Step 2 provides a unique home like environment aimed at maximising each persons potential for independent living through case management, assessment, training, supervision and facilitation of independent living skills.
ProgramThe program is designed on an individual basis to meet each resident's specific needs. Staff will assist residents with improving activities of daily living such as attending to hygiene, household chores, meal preparation, budgeting, shopping and use of public transport. We also aim to assist residents with socialisation and communication skills.
StaffingStep 2 is staffed 24 hours a day by nursing staff who are experienced in the support of people with Acquired Brain Injury and Psychiatric Disability. The program is supported by: - Specialist ABI GP Consultant
- Psychiatric Registrar
- Consultant Psychiatrist
- Social Worker
- Neuropsychologist
Where appropriate, and applicable staff will liase with people involved in the resident's care such as Family members, General Practitioner, Case Manager, Accommodation Staff and Carers. Length of StayLength of stay is determined on an individual basis and will be assessed by the achievement of goals set by the resident and Step 2 team. An average length of stay is approximately 3 to 6 months.
